Transfer Your Knowledge

You are invited to transfer the results of your research. Our team will support you to achieve your expected impact on society using your R&D results.

We design a roadmap for technology development with your research outcomes and initiate the search of potential clients to transfer them.

Should the transfer process involve the creation of a Start-up o Spin-off, iCono UDD will support you in devising, or building a business plan to deal with any legal matters related to your new business. After negotiating with third parties, or entrepreneurs, we draft and manage technology licensing agreements.

The technology transfer process may also start in the early stages of technology development. This can be either through R&D collaboration agreements, or via technology contracts. iCono UDD takes full responsibility for negotiating agreements with third parties.

Transfer Mechanisms

We aim to find the best technology transfer strategy for you. This is why iCono UDD offers different transfer mechanisms which vary according to the type of knowledge and technology potential, as well as our university’s strategy to maximize the impact of your work.

These are the mechanisms for transferring your research:

  • License granting

Our university grants third parties a permit for the use of technology under certain conditions agreed by all parties. At the same time, the university ensures the safeguarding of any newly developed knowledge for the continuity of our staff’s research in different areas when appropriate.

Licensing agreements include at least a plan of action on behalf of the licensee. In addition, the geographic scope and timescale, sublicensing rights, project milestones, profits and guarantees, amongst others, are defined within these agreements.

  • Spin-Off Creation

This is the mechanism by which Universidad del Desarrollo sets up a business in order to take their new technology to market. University academics generally participate in spin-offs. The university will support these through a variety of mechanisms that will require negotiation at a given time.

  • Sale or transfer of intellectual property rights

The university sells, or assigns its rights to a third party under certain conditions, safeguarding the continuity of the diverse areas of research of academics when appropriate.

  • Execution of R&D collaboration contracts or technological contracts

Technology transfer can also take place in the early stages of technology development through R&D collaboration agreements, or via technology contracts stipulating who owns the results, who is to manage IP, and the different alternatives for technology transfer.
